About Me
Ted Greves
I am a retired 57 year old firefighter with a wife and two daughters and three grandchildren all living in or close to Nanaimo.
I came from Ontario in 1980 in search of a teaching position but found a job at the old Mayo Mill on Haliburton Street. The mill closed a few months later. I then started work for a year as an iron worker for Dubyna Steel. Following that, I started my career with the City of Nanaimo as a Fire Fighter for 25 years. I was voted vice president of the union and later voted President where I remained for six years. During the time as President of Local 905 I also was elected Vice President of the Vancouver Island Region of the British Columbia Professional Fire Fighter's Association. While the co-chair of the Legislative Committee I am proud to say that we achieved a Cancer Presumption Legislation for seven cancers that affect fire fighters.
I have a broad range of skills in various fields and over the years have proven my leadership. My education, life skills, exposure to many different situations, honesty and hard work are my major attributes. Having dealt with the City over the years, I have developed an interest in Council issues. Following my recent retirement from the Nanaimo Fire Rescue, I have been searching to do something meaningful and productive and now is the time. I also have an interest in the upcoming matter of a Multiplex for our City. As a public servant for the past 25 years I simply see a position on Council as furthering my career.
